Level 3 students from Travel and Tourism hosted their annual International Village Festival at Hammersmith & Fulham College this week, showcasing a vibrant array of cultures from across the globe.

This year鈥檚 event featured an exciting variety of interactive stands, with dynamic displays featuring food, artifacts, games, quizzes, brochures, and much more to represent different continents, countries, and regions. Many students wore traditional national attire, eagerly welcoming visitors to explore their stands, sell products, and share insights about the destinations they were promoting.

The stands were evaluated by a panel of judges based on creativity, presentation, and overall effort, with certificates awarded to the top performers.

A diverse mix of countries and regions were represented, including the Caribbean, Africa, the Mediterranean, Latin America, India, Philippines and Thailand, Eastern Europe, Western Europe and the Indian Ocean Islands.

Tenequa and Kaysha represented the Caribbean, offering delicious Jamaican patties, biscuits, sweets, and drinks for visitors to enjoy. Their stand was filled with the vibrant spirit of the islands, and their interactive display highlighted the rich culture and hospitality of the Caribbean.

Joseph brought the flavours of Latin America to life with Brazilian sweets and snacks. Visitors enjoyed tasting these delicious treats while learning about the diverse cultures and cuisines from across the continent.

Amarie and Ubah presented an array of products from the Mediterranean region, including keychains, bracelets, ice cream, passion fruit juice, and coconut water, inspired by the rich traditions of Morocco and surrounding Mediterranean countries.

Heldneya’s stand featured an exciting mix of African delicacies such as tuna pasties, plantain rice, coconut rice, and lemonade. The stand also showcased scarves, hair extensions, and products, as well as plantain chips, offering visitors a taste of African culture and cuisine.

Manishaben and Ola鈥檚 stand brought the essence of India to the festival, with a display of spices, samosas, Leno puff biscuits, diyas (traditional oil lamps), and henna. Their stand was a sensory experience, offering the smells and flavours of India alongside the cultural significance of their products.

Shaina and Angel combined the cultures of the Philippines and Thailand with their fusion dessert, Mango Grahams, and a selection of informative leaflets about both countries.

Oleksandr and Kristian brought the tastes of Eastern Europe, including sausages, meats, Polish and Ukrainian dumplings, salty cookie sticks (paulszki), chocolates, and marshmallows. Their stand was a vibrant celebration of cultures from countries including Lithuania, Ukraine, Bosnia, Romania, Montenegro, Kosovo, Bulgaria, Serbia, Estonia, and Croatia. They also handed out leaflets to promote awareness and appreciation of their shared cultural heritage.

Kim, Grace-Kelly, and Marta offered skewers, drinks, and sweet jars from the Indian Ocean islands. Their stand was a colourful and lively representation of the tropical island life, showcasing the unique flavours and traditions of the region.

Each stand was assessed by a panel of judges, and visitors could vote for their favourites as well. Feedback from students highlighted how interactive the festival was and how it allowed them to apply coursework concepts in a real-world setting, saying that it was not only educational but also a fun and engaging way to develop event management skills.

Peter Smith, Travel and Tourism Lecturer, said: 鈥淭he underlying ethos of the International Village Festival is about celebrating global diversity, which perfectly aligns with the diverse backgrounds of our students. The event helps to foster a sense of connection and understanding across different cultures.鈥

The International Village Festival 2025 was a memorable experience for all involved, as it embodied the spirit of collaboration, cultural exchange, and the celebration of global diversity.
